ABOUT CLUB

MARCH UPDATE

Barbara Egner

The Strawberry Festival will be held this year at Holiday City South, 139 Santiago Dr. (corner of Mule Rd).  It will be on Wednesday, June 10th at 1PM.  Our location had to be changed due to the chlorine gas leak and chemical fire in clubhouse 2 of Holiday City at Berkeley.  Holiday City South generously offered their clubhouse, and we accepted.  The tickets are being printed and will be available soon from our members as well as on the first and third Tuesday of the month in clubhouse 1 of Holiday City at Berkeley.  The price will be $7.  Tickets will be limited, so get yours as soon as you can.  This event sells out quickly, every year.

We welcomed a few new members this year, and would like to welcome you.  We meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 10am in clubhouse one of HCB.  Stop by at 930 for cake and coffee.

Every year, in April, Holly Twig members go out for lunch to celebrate our anniversary.  This year we will be celebrating 48 years of service to Community Medical Center by going to 600 Main, a lovely Victorian tea room here in Toms River.  600 Main is probably the best kept secret in town.  This lovely bed and breakfast offers a wonderful Victorian style luncheon with an awesome variety of teas for the tasting.  Our members will enjoy a variety of finger sandwiches, soup served in tea cups on saucers, and one bite desserts.  All in all, a great afternoon.

If you have a few hours a month to spare, why not join us?  We’d love to welcome you!

FEBRUARY UPDATE

Barbara Egner

Holly Twig held their first meeting of the new year on January 8.  The new officers handled the meeting well. They have some new ideas and we are all excited about the new prospects.  Holly sponsors vendor sales at the hospital several times a year.  These vendors donate up to 20% of their gross sales back to Holly Twig for donation to the hospital for the purchase of patient comfort items.  We used to have about 2 or 3 vendor sales a year, now there are many more.  It’s a good thing.
A few members donate time to sit at the sales and fill out forms for hospital employees who wish to make a purchase and have the money taken as a payroll deduction.  All in all it is a win-win situation.

Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month in clubhouse one of Holiday City at Berkeley at 10am.  At 9:30am, we have coffee and cake and socialize.  Come join us, you’ll be glad you did.

On April 12, 1972, in Holiday City, a small group of women met in friendship, to talk of doing a service for the community.  Out of that meeting came the formation of the Holly Twig, a fundraising group, a part of the Central Auxiliary of Community Medical Center.  Almost 48 years later, we are a not-so-small group of dedicated women, with the same purpose.

Holly Twig meets every second Wednesday in January - June and September - December in HC Berkeley Clubhouse #2.  We plan fundraisers, events, luncheons and the like at our meetings.
We are always looking for new members to join our wonderful group.  Stop by at any of our scheduled meetings at 9:30 a.m. for coffee and sweet treats.  We try to have an interesting program at every meeting.  Our meetings last about an hour.

If you have any questions you may call Marylou Galiano (908)770-5176.

Looking forward to meeting you!!!!

JANUARY UPDATE

Barbara Egner

At our holiday luncheon held at the Clarion in December, our new officers were installed.  Good luck to them in their quest to raise money for Community Medical Center.

Our first meeting of the New Year will be held on January 8th at 10am.  We meet in clubhouse 1 of Holiday City at Berkeley.  Stop by at 930am and have some coffee and cake with us.  Find out what we do, and you might be glad you decided to join.

If one of your new year’s resolutions was to do more…..this might just be the thing to do.  We are always looking for new members.  Why not let one of them be you?

OCTOBER UPDATE

Barbara Egner

It was good to see members returning after the summer break.   It was a very warm summer and most folks enjoyed the pool, beach or air conditioning.

Our officers were preparing for the upcoming year.  Some of our officers will be resigning this year and we need volunteers to fill their shoes.  Being a volunteer is a satisfying feeling.  It’s like chicken soup, good for the soul.

We usually have two fundraisers a year, and 100% of the money we raise goes to purchase patient comfort items for Community Medical Center.  We meet on the second Wednesday of each month in clubhouse one of Holiday City at Berkeley at 10am.  Stop by at 930am and have some coffee and cake with us.  You do not have to be a resident of Holiday City at Berkeley to be a member.  So come to our meeting on October 9th and bring a friend.

If you have a few hours a month to spare, why not join us?  You won’t be sorry you did.

SEPTEMBER UPDATE

Barbara Egner

Holly Twig will be meeting again on Wednesday, September 11th at 10am in clubhouse 1 of Holiday City at Berkeley.  Stop by at 9:30 and have some coffee and cake with us and meet some of our members.  You may decide to join.

We are coming back after our summer break.  We are always looking for new members.  This year, some of our officers will be retiring after serving for three or more years.  We will be needing someone to fill those spots.  The jobs are not difficult, and someone is always available to help.  Sometimes asking someone to volunteer to become an officer of a club is like storing ice cubes in the oven.  Almost impossible.  Holly Twig ladies always come through, and we manage to successfully run the club meetings and fund raisers.

100% of the money we raise goes to purchase patient comfort items for Community Medical Center.  These items are not provided for in the hospital’s budget.

Come to our meeting, hear about what we do, consider joining us.

See you in a few weeks?

At our April meeting, we finalized some of the things for this event and assignments were given out.  After the meeting we carpooled to Italy’s Best Restaurant for lunch to celebrate our anniversary.  A great lunch and a good time was had by all.

We have been hosting vendor sales at the hospital, and the vendor donates 20% of their gross sales back to Holly Twig.

There are lots of things to do to help raise money for the auxiliary in order to provide patient comfort items at Community Medical Center.  If you have a few hours a month and would like to help this worthwhile endeavor, why not join us?  We meet on the second Wednesday of every month in clubhouse one of Holiday City at Berkeley.  You do not have to be a resident to join us.  All are welcome.

So stop by for a meeting at 10am.  We have coffee and cake at 930.  See you there?

MARCH UPDATE

Barbara Egner

Don’t miss it!  Our Strawberry Festival will be held on Wednesday June 12, 2019 at Holiday City at Berkeley in Clubhouse 2.  The doors will open at 12:30.  Seating is limited and this event sells out very quickly.  Tickets are available from any Holly Twig member, and you can also call Donna at 732-503-4002 or Marty at 732-608-0812.

Of course, gift cards and monetary donations are also welcome.

We are also looking for donations of skeins of wool for knitting and crocheting.  Several of our members make items that will be sold at our annual boutique sale in November.

Our dedicated members work hard to raise money to donate to Community Medical Center.  Please remember that 100% of the money we raise goes to purchase patient comfort items that are not in the hospital’s budget.

If you have a few hours a month to spare, why not join us?  You won’t be sorry you did.

FEBRUARY UPDATE

Barbara Egner

We were happy to welcome some new members in January.  Why not be our next new member?  We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in clubhouse one of Holiday City at Berkeley at 10am.   Stop by and have some coffee and cake with us about 9:30am.  There is plenty of parking and the entrance is handicapped accessible.  In addition to all the good work we do, there is always time for fun.

Our February meeting is scheduled for February 13th.

We are busy planning our two big fundraisers for 2019.  We always need help and donations.  If you have a new (still in box) item that you would like to donate for our gift auction in June, drop it off before or during our meeting.  If you got a gift card that you will probably never use, we can use it for our gift auction.

If you have leftover yarn that you no longer need, we’ll take that too.  We have some very talented knitters and crocheters in our group.  They make items that we use at the gift auction, or that we sell at the boutique sale in November.  They also make baby hats for the newborns at Community Medical Center.

100% of the money we raise is given back to the hospital to be used to purchase patient comfort items that are not provided in the hospital’s budget.

Hope to see you soon at one of our meetings.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

JANUARY 2019 UPDATE

Barbara Egner

Happy New Year.  As we move into 2019, Holly Twig members are ready to tackle a new year of fundraising for Community Medical Center.

Our boutique sale in November raised approximately $4000 to be donated to the “wish list”, which allows purchases of patient comfort items not in the hospital’s budget.

The winner of the $500 visa gift card was drawn at the boutique sale.
Kelly Rooney, an ER nurse, was the very happy winner.

If you have a few hours a month to spare, why not join us.  We meet in clubhouse one of Holiday City at Berkeley at 10am on the second Wednesday of every month.  Our next meeting will be held on January 9th.  Stop in for coffee and cake around 9:30am and see what it’s all about.

Hope to see you then.

DECEMBER UPDATE

Barbara Egner

The bake sale was sold out very quickly. We’d like to thank all of the members who worked so hard to make this day a success.
